Mums: The most beautiful people on the inside and out

There is no doubt about it, Mom’s teach us life’s most important lessons. This list from Joanna Goddard hit me to the core and almost made me cry, as did this list from the wonderful and wise Kristina Matisic.

But I’d like to add one more very important lesson to the list that my mum has taught me and my sister: Inner beauty is more important than outer beauty.

I mean don’t get me wrong, my mom has always taught us to take care ourselves (especially when it comes to our skin and always making sure it is sunscreened and hydrated!), but she always stressed building character over beauty, and that certain things are not necessary, such as: piercings, make-up, tans, shaved legs, or tight clothes.

But with all that said, and one could argue that the previous statement makes my next point mute, but I have one thing I’d like to tell my mum this Mother’s Day: Mom, you only get more beautiful with age.

This is something that I have been wanting to tell you for awhile, that the way you have gracefully embraced your age is inspiring and truly beautiful. In fact your beauty honestly shocks me! You have always been stunning, so I didn’t think it was possible for you to be more beautiful, but that is exactly what has happened.

I love your salt and pepper hair. I love each one of your wrinkles that I know is from countless smiles and laughs. And most importantly I love that you continue to teach me that inner beauty comes from patience, unconditional love, and grace and outer beauty comes from living a full, happy life.
